ECJ ruling: GDPR fines can be calculated on the basis of a group’s total turnover
In a ruling dated 13 February 2025, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled that GDPR fines can now be calculated on the basis of a group’s global turnover – even if only one subsidiary in an EU member state is affected. In light of this decision, it’s vital that businesses re-evaluate their current data privacy practices – ensuring that no current processes in place violate the requirements set by the GDPR.
