No, the widget alone does not provide full compliance. It offers many helpful features for an affordable price, but should not be considered as the only solution for meeting all legal and regulatory accessibility requirements.

WCAG, or the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, is an international standard that aims to make online content accessible to everyone. First introduced in May 1999 with WCAG 1.0, it addresses the diverse needs of people with disabilities – including visual, hearing, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning and neurological impairments. Although the latest version released is WCAG 2.2, the W3C recommends that websites conform to at least the guidelines outlined in WCAG 2.0 and WCAG 2.1.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines are based on four principles: Perceivable, Operable, Understandable and Robust (the POUR model). Perceivable means that the content must be presented in a way that can be perceived by the user’s senses. Operable means that the user must be able to interact with the website or interface without problems. Understandable means that users must be able to understand how to use the various information presented on your website, whether through text instructions or labels. Robust means that the online content can be interpreted well by a wide range of assistive technologies.

In general, all businesses that provide services to members of the EU must ensure that their website is accessible and complies with the European Accessibility Act. Some micro enterprises may be exempt. As the EU moves towards greater inclusivity, it is better to prepare your website regardless of the size of your business.

Across the EU, fines can range from €2,000 to €500,000, with the most severe breaches potentially incurring fines of up to €1,000,000. The specific penalty depends on the violation’s gravity, its effects on individuals, and the enforcement guidelines of the respective country.
